Totally get where you’re coming from. I tried to save a few bucks on a “green” finish too, and it just didn’t hold up—looked dull after a year, even with gentle cleaners. Hard water’s brutal, honestly. Brushed nickel’s been the only thing that doesn’t drive me nuts with spots or streaks. Sometimes paying a bit more upfront saves you the headache later... though I still keep hoping there’s a budget-friendly finish that actually lasts.

I get the appeal of brushed nickel—it’s definitely less fussy than chrome. But I’ve actually had pretty good luck with matte black finishes, even with hard water. They hide spots better than I expected, and the look is kind of modern without being flashy. Downside is, they do show soap residue if you’re not careful, but I’ll take that over constant water spots any day. Maybe worth a shot if you’re tired of the usual suspects?

I’ve been eyeing matte black too, but I’m a little paranoid about fingerprints and streaks. My kids seem to have a sixth sense for smudging anything that looks remotely clean. That said, water spots on chrome are the bane of my existence, so maybe a bit of soap residue is a fair trade-off. Is it just me, or do all these finishes have some secret downside they don’t mention until you’ve already installed the thing?

Honestly, I think every finish has its own little quirks they don’t advertise. I went with brushed nickel thinking it’d be the “easy” option, but it still shows water spots if you don’t wipe it down. Matte black does look sharp, but I’ve seen it pick up toothpaste marks and fingerprints too, especially with kids around. Sometimes I wonder if the old-school stainless steel was the way to go—at least you know what you’re getting into.

Honestly, I thought brushed nickel would be low-maintenance too, but the water spots drive me nuts. Ended up going back to plain stainless in the kids’ bathroom—cheaper, and at least I don’t stress every time they splash around. Not perfect, but less hassle.
