Honestly, sometimes the “trendy” finishes hold up better than the classics... who knew?

Funny how that works, right? I used to swear by brushed nickel for its “timeless” look, but those spots are relentless. Matte black’s sharp, but yeah, fingerprints everywhere—especially if you’ve got hard water. PVD finishes surprised me too. I put a champagne bronze faucet in a high-traffic mudroom, expecting disaster, but it’s still looking new. Sometimes the new stuff really does outlast the old standbys.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing with PVD finishes—they’re surprisingly tough. I used to recommend chrome for durability, but it’s a magnet for water spots. Honestly, the newer finishes seem to handle daily abuse better, especially in busy spaces. Still, nothing’s truly maintenance-free... but some are definitely less hassle than others.

I totally get the frustration. I went with a brushed nickel faucet last year because it was on sale, and honestly, it’s been way less annoying than chrome. Sure, it still gets fingerprints, but at least I’m not constantly wiping off water spots. I guess nothing’s perfect, but for the price, I’ll take “less hassle” any day. Sometimes you just have to pick your battles...

Funny, I actually went the opposite route—stuck with chrome because I thought it’d be “classic.” Now I’m wiping it down every time someone washes their hands. Brushed nickel sounds like less of a headache, honestly. At this point, I’d settle for anything that doesn’t show every single spot.

I hear you on the chrome—looks great in theory, but the fingerprints and water spots are relentless. Brushed nickel definitely hides a lot more, but I’ve noticed it can still get those weird streaks if you use the wrong cleaner. Have you looked into any of the newer matte finishes? Some of them are supposed to be even more forgiving, plus they’re often made with lower-impact manufacturing processes, which is a nice bonus if you’re thinking about sustainability.

Curious if anyone’s tried fixtures made from recycled materials or anything labeled as “eco-friendly”? I’ve seen a few brands popping up, but I haven’t had hands-on experience yet. Wondering if they hold up as well as the classics or if they’re just another thing to wipe down constantly...
