Sink fixtures driving me nuts lately
Honestly, I’m with you - brushed nickel is just easier to live with. I tried matte black in my last reno and it looked incredible for about a week, then the smudges started driving me nuts. If you’re actually using your kitchen, those trendy finishes are more headache than they’re worth. I’d rather have something that hides the mess and still looks decent after a long day. Sometimes practicality just wins out over style, no matter what’s “in” right now.

That’s honestly the struggle every time - balancing what looks good with what actually works in real life. I’ve noticed brushed nickel tends to hide water spots and fingerprints way better than the black or even chrome. Have you ever tried satin brass? It’s a bit more forgiving than matte black but still has some character. I do wonder if we’re all just chasing trends that make more work for ourselves...

That’s a valid point. I’ve seen the same thing happen in new builds - matte black looks sharp but it’s a magnet for every smudge. Satin brass is interesting; it’s got warmth and doesn’t scream “high maintenance” like some finishes. Still, I question how long these trends stick around before everyone wants something else. At the end of the day, practicality usually wins out, especially once you’ve had to clean a few dozen fixtures yourself.
I get where you’re coming from. I remember a client who insisted on matte black everything - looked amazing in the photos, but after a month, they were frustrated with fingerprints and water spots everywhere. Funny thing is, brushed nickel keeps coming back because it just works and hides wear better. Trends are fun, but sometimes the classics stick around for a reason...
SINK FIXTURES DRIVING ME NUTS LATELY
Funny you mention fingerprints - my kids seem to have a sixth sense for finding any surface that’ll show a smudge. I went with oil-rubbed bronze once, thinking it’d be “unique.” Looked cool for about a week, then every splash and fingerprint was basically a spotlight. I keep circling back to brushed nickel too. It’s not flashy, but it’s like the sweatpants of fixtures - comfortable, reliable, and never really goes out of style. Sometimes boring just means less cleaning...
