SINK FIXTURES DRIVING ME NUTS LATELY

Totally get where you’re coming from. We put in a matte black faucet in our new place because it looked so cool, but wow, every single water spot shows up. It’s like a magnet for little marks. I actually kinda liked the idea of touchless at first, but after seeing my brother deal with his randomly turning on and off (and sometimes not at all), I’m glad we went manual.

Couldn’t agree more. Sometimes simple really is better.

Isn’t it weird how the “sleek” finishes end up being the highest maintenance? I actually specified matte black for a client’s kitchen once, thinking it’d be modern and low-key. Ended up getting a call about fingerprints and streaks every week. Do you think there’s any finish that actually hides spots well, or is it just a tradeoff between style and sanity? I’ve wondered if brushed nickel is still the best compromise, even though it feels kind of old school now...

Matte black looks great in photos, but yeah, it’s a total smudge magnet. I’ve had better luck with brushed stainless—doesn’t show every water spot, and it feels a bit more modern than brushed nickel to me. But then again, I’m always wondering if there’s a more eco-friendly finish out there that’s actually practical. Has anyone tried those PVD-coated options? I keep hearing they’re tougher, but not sure if they actually stay looking clean...

Had a client insist on matte black in their kitchen last year—looked killer at the reveal, but after a week? Fingerprints everywhere, and they started calling it “the crime scene sink.” I’ve spec’d PVD-coated brass a couple times since. It seems to hold up better, especially in busy homes, but you still get some spots if you don’t wipe it down. Nothing’s truly maintenance-free, but PVD’s probably the closest I’ve seen.

Matte black is such a heartbreaker, right? I fell for it in my own place—looked so sleek until my kids got their hands on it. Now it’s like a forensic lab every morning. PVD brass has been way less stressful for me, though I still catch myself buffing out water spots more than I’d like. Honestly, I’m starting to think “patina” is just code for “I gave up.”
