Sink fixtures driving me nuts lately

I totally get the appeal of reclaimed stuff—there’s just something cool about the character. But I actually went with matte black fixtures in my kitchen, and I’m surprised how much I like them. They don’t show fingerprints as much as I expected, and they warm up the space a bit compared to stainless. Only thing is, water spots can be a pain if you have hard water, but a quick wipe usually does the trick. Maybe worth considering if you’re not sold on the other options?

Funny you mention matte black—I specified those for a client’s kitchen renovation last year, and they’ve held up better than I expected. The water spot issue is real, though. We tried a matte brass in another project and it was gorgeous at first, but fingerprints were a nightmare. Ever tried any of the newer PVD finishes? Supposedly more durable, but I’m still on the fence about them...

Matte black looked so good in the showroom, but after living with it for a year, I’m not totally sold. Water spots are everywhere, and if you’ve got hard water, forget it. I wipe them down constantly and they still look streaky half the time. Matte brass is even worse for me—fingerprints from just making coffee in the morning. It’s like a crime scene by noon.

I’ve heard about PVD finishes too, but I’m skeptical. The sales pitch is always “super durable, won’t tarnish, easy to clean,” but I’ve seen mixed reviews online. Some people say they’re bulletproof, others complain about scratches and weird discoloration after a few months. I don’t know if it’s just bad batches or what.

Honestly, I’m starting to think the old-school chrome or stainless might be the way to go. Not as trendy, but at least you know what you’re getting. My parents’ kitchen has had the same basic faucet for 20 years and it still looks fine. Maybe I’m just not cut out for high-maintenance finishes... or maybe I need to stop obsessing over every smudge.

If anyone’s actually had a PVD fixture for more than a year and it still looks new, I’d love to hear about it. Otherwise, I might just stick with boring but reliable.

I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually had a PVD brushed nickel faucet in my own kitchen for about three years now. It’s held up way better than the matte black we put in a client’s house last year—those water spots are brutal. The PVD finish isn’t totally immune to fingerprints, but it’s definitely easier to wipe clean and hasn’t discolored at all. Maybe it depends on the brand or how hard your water is? I wouldn’t write off PVD just yet, but yeah, chrome and stainless are always safe bets if you want zero fuss.

I get the appeal of PVD, but I’ve actually had issues with it showing weird streaks after a while—almost like the finish gets cloudy? Maybe it’s just my water or the cleaning products, but honestly, I still trust plain old stainless more. Anyone else notice PVD can scratch if you’re not careful?
