Last week, I had this drywall subcontractor who seemed totally reliable at first. Good reviews, decent price, seemed like a solid dude. Then halfway through the job, he just vanished—no calls, no texts, nothing. Now I'm stuck scrambling to find someone else to finish the mess he left behind. Um, anyone else had a subcontractor pull a disappearing act like this? Curious how you handled it...

Had something similar happen last year—here's what worked for me: first, documented everything (texts, emails, photos of unfinished work). Then sent a formal notice giving him a deadline to respond. When he didn't, I hired someone else and deducted the extra costs from his final payment. Saved me some headaches...

"documented everything (texts, emails, photos of unfinished work)"

This is key—I learned the hard way a few years back when my tile guy vanished mid-bathroom reno. Didn't have clear documentation, ended up eating extra costs myself. Lesson definitely learned...

Did you end up having to hire someone else to finish the tile job, or did you tackle it yourself? Had a similar issue with a painter who ghosted halfway through painting our living room. Luckily, I'd kept screenshots of our texts and photos of the half-painted walls, so when I brought someone else in, it was clear what needed finishing. Still ended up costing more than planned though... guess that's just part of the homeowner learning curve.
