Navigating building codes without losing your mind

Yeah, definitely experienced that myself. One inspector told me my setback measurements were fine, then the next guy came around and flagged it as an issue... had to redo some plans, which was frustrating. Makes me wonder how much of this variance is just personal interpretation versus actual ambiguity in the codes themselves. Has anyone tried appealing an inspector's decision when this happens? Curious how that process went...
