Is a corner lot really worth the extra mowing and sidewalk shoveling?

We're house hunting right now and found a place we really like, but it's on a corner lot. At first glance, it seems awesome—more yard space, fewer neighbors crowding in, and lots of natural light. But then I started thinking about the downsides...like having to mow all that extra grass and shovel snow from two sidewalks instead of one. Plus, there's the whole privacy thing—does it feel weird having people walking by on two sides instead of just one?

I've heard some folks say corner lots are great for resale value, while others complain about traffic noise or headlights shining into windows at night. Honestly, I'm torn. If you've lived on a corner lot before or know someone who has, how'd you find it? Worth the extra hassle or nah?

Corner lots can be great, but they definitely have their quirks. A few quick thoughts from experience:

- Extra yard space is awesome until mowing day rolls around again...and again.
- Privacy really depends on landscaping—some well-placed shrubs or a fence can make a huge difference.
- Traffic noise and headlights at night are legit concerns; consider bedroom placement carefully.

Overall, if you love the house, these issues are manageable. Just don't underestimate the extra outdoor upkeep—you'll feel it every weekend.

Totally agree about the mowing—our corner lot seemed like a dream at first, but now I joke that my weekends belong to the lawnmower. Still, there's something really satisfying about having that extra space to get creative with landscaping. We planted a mix of wildflowers and native grasses along the sidewalk edge, which not only looks awesome but also cuts down on mowing time (win-win).

Traffic noise was a bigger adjustment than I expected though. We ended up installing blackout curtains in the bedrooms facing the street, and it made a huge difference with headlights at night. Also, don't underestimate how much neighbors appreciate when you keep sidewalks clear in winter...we've gotten cookies and thank-you notes just for staying on top of shoveling.

Honestly, if you're someone who enjoys outdoor projects or gardening, corner lots offer so much potential to make your home uniquely yours. Just be ready for a little extra sweat equity!

We bought a corner lot about five years ago, and honestly, I'm still on the fence. Landscaping freedom is great—my wife turned one side into a veggie garden, which is awesome—but man, the shoveling gets old fast. And yeah, traffic noise was surprisingly annoying at first; we planted some shrubs to buffer it a bit, but curtains definitely helped more. I guess it's all about trade-offs...extra space vs. extra chores. Still not sure I'd choose it again if we moved.

Yeah, totally get where you're coming from. Built our place on a corner lot about 8 years ago, and at first I was pumped about the extra yard space for projects and gardening. But man, winter hits and suddenly that sidewalk feels like it's a mile long. Still, gotta admit, having room to spread out is pretty sweet—especially when friends come over for BBQs or whatever. Like you said though, trade-offs...guess it depends how much you hate shoveling snow, haha.
