We started building our dream house last year, and the whole idea was to make something that'd stay in the family, you know, passed down to our kids and grandkids. But man, it's been one headache after another. Contractors don't seem to get the concept of "built to last," and finding quality materials that aren't crazy overpriced is like hunting unicorns. Starting to wonder if this whole legacy home thing is more trouble than it's worth. Anyone else hitting walls with this kinda project?

Yeah, that's the truth right there. From experience, it's not just about materials eitherβit's also about craftsmanship. A lotta contractors today are used to quick turnaround jobs, not projects meant to last a century or more. Maybe the trick is finding someone who's actually done restoration work on older homes...they tend to get the whole "built to last" vibe better. Have you looked into restoration specialists instead of standard builders?
