I get what you mean. Those fancy monitors are great until they aren’t—like, I had one that swore my attic was bone dry, but the musty smell said otherwise. Ended up finding a tiny leak the “smart” sensor missed. Sometimes, it feels like our noses and ears are just better at catching the weird stuff technology overlooks. Guess there’s still some magic in the old crawl-and-sniff routine… even if my knees don’t thank me for it.

That’s the thing, isn’t it? I remember walking a site with a project manager who swore by this new moisture sensor—top of the line, supposedly. We were checking out a crawlspace in an old duplex, and while the tech gave us the all-clear, I kept catching that earthy, almost sweet smell you get when wood’s been damp too long. Sure enough, tucked behind some insulation, there was rot starting up from a slow drip nobody caught on the readings.

I get why inspectors lean on gadgets—makes reports look sharp and keeps things efficient. But sometimes I wonder if we’re losing touch with those little clues you only pick up by being present. Does anyone else feel like these requirements are pushing us to trust data over instinct? Or maybe I’m just getting sentimental about the days when a flashlight and your own senses were enough to spot trouble...
