“partial fixes are underrated. I used to think you had to rip everything out at once or it wouldn’t look right, but swapping out the worst tiles first really made a difference for me too.”

- Honestly, I get the appeal of tackling things bit by bit, but sometimes patchwork fixes can end up making the space feel even more cramped or mismatched.
- In my experience, especially with weird tile choices from the 90s, a bold move—like painting over the whole mess with tile paint—can actually unify the look way better than swapping a few tiles here and there.
- Caulk is a solid stopgap, but if you’re already pulling out tiles, it might be worth thinking about a bigger change. Even just regrouting everything in a fresh color can make old tiles look intentional, not accidental.
- I’ve seen folks spend months swapping tiles one by one, only to wish they’d just gone for a full refresh sooner. Sometimes the “rip the band-aid off” approach saves sanity in the long run, even if it’s a little more upfront work.
- That said, budgets are real. Just don’t underestimate how much a unified surface (even if it’s just paint or new grout) can open up a cramped space.

Partial fixes work, but sometimes a bold, simple change is less stressful than dragging it out.
