How much do ceiling height and typical viewing positions affect that glare?

When reviewing a lighting plan before installation, which details are most useful for telling whether the issue is fixture visibility, beam spread, or placement? Would you start with the reflected ceiling plan and seating positions, or are fixture cut sheets and beam-angle information needed to judge it properly?

Just curious - how many of you have swapped out your old bulbs for those newer, energy-saving ones? I keep reading about how much money and energy you can save, but honestly, I still have a couple of those old-school incandescent bulbs hanging around (mostly in lamps I never use). I’ve switched most of the main lights in my apartment to LEDs, but I’m not 100% there yet.

Here’s a quick poll for fun:

1. All my lights are LEDs - fully converted
2. Most are LEDs, but a few old bulbs left
3. About half and half
4. Still mostly using traditional bulbs
5. Haven’t switched any, sticking with what I know

I’m somewhere between 2 and 3. The kitchen and living room are all set, but the bathroom light is this weird size and I can’t find a compatible LED for it. Anyone else run into that? Also, is it just me or do some of the “warm white” LEDs still look kinda cold compared to the old bulbs? Maybe I’m just picky.

If you’ve made the switch, did you notice a difference in your electric bill? And for those who haven’t, is it just habit or is there another reason?

Like, imagine if you could just snap your fingers and start fresh - no old wiring, no ugly fixtures from the 90s (ugh, brass everywhere). I'd probably go for softer, warmer lights in the living room, maybe some hidden LED strips under cabinets or shelves for a cozy vibe. But then again, I also love those industrial-style hanging bulbs... decisions, decisions. Curious what other people would do differently if they had a clean slate?
