Yeah, Zigbee bulbs are definitely the way to go if you're worried about Wi-Fi reliability. I've set mine up with a local hub, and even during outages, everything stays responsive. Just make sure your hub has battery backup too, otherwise you're back to square one...

Totally agree on Zigbee bulbs—Wi-Fi bulbs drove me nuts with random disconnects. A few quick points from my experience:

- Battery backup on the hub is key, but also consider bulbs that default to a usable brightness/color if the hub does go down.
- Placement matters: Zigbee bulbs form a mesh network, so spacing them out properly helps reliability.
- Don't overlook physical switches. Guests (or family members...) will inevitably flip them off, so smart switches or covers can save headaches.

Overall, Zigbee's been solid for me.

I switched to Zigbee bulbs last year after Wi-Fi bulbs kept randomly disconnecting mid-movie night... drove me crazy. Agree on the physical switches too—my guests always flip them off, so I ended up installing smart switches. Definitely worth it for peace of mind.

I had a similar journey with smart bulbs, actually. Started out with Wi-Fi bulbs because they seemed easiest to set up, but man... the constant disconnects drove me nuts too. I remember one night hosting a small dinner party—lights kept flickering and randomly going offline, making the whole vibe awkward. Guests were joking my place was haunted. 😂

Eventually, I switched over to Hue bulbs using Zigbee, and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. Zigbee just feels more stable and reliable, especially when you've got a bunch of devices going at once. The dedicated hub makes a huge difference in stability and response time.

But yeah, the physical switch issue is real. Friends and family who aren't into smart home stuff instinctively flip them off. I ended up going with smart switches as well, but I opted for Lutron Caséta switches rather than the bulbs themselves in some rooms. They integrate nicely with my Hue setup through HomeKit, and the physical switches give everyone an easy way to control lighting without messing up automations or connectivity. Plus, aesthetically speaking, the Lutron switches look clean and minimalistic—big plus for me as I’m picky about interior details.

One minor disagreement though—I wouldn't say smart switches are always necessary. For lamps or accent lighting, smart plugs or bulbs alone can be fine if you don't have guests frequently interacting with them. It really depends on your lifestyle and how often you entertain or have visitors.

Overall though, definitely agree that investing in a proper Zigbee-based system was worth the peace of mind. Now movie nights are actually relaxing again... no more surprise blackouts mid-scene.

Interesting points, but honestly, I've had zero issues with Wi-Fi bulbs after upgrading my router. Maybe it's more about network quality than bulb type? Zigbee setups seem solid, but Wi-Fi can still hold its own with the right infrastructure.
