Finally upgraded my living room lights—anyone else tried smart bulbs?

Funny you mention smart switches—I went all in on bulbs at first, but then realized guests (and my partner) kept flipping the wall switch off out of habit. That killed the whole “smart” part until I’d go reset everything. Ended up swapping a couple switches just to keep the peace. Has anyone tried those energy monitoring features some brands offer? Curious if they actually help spot power hogs or if it’s just a gimmick.

That’s exactly why I ended up mixing bulbs and switches too—no matter how much I explained it, muscle memory wins every time. About the energy monitoring, I tried it with a couple Kasa switches in my workshop. It’s interesting to see the numbers, but honestly, I haven’t caught any big surprises yet. Maybe if you’ve got older appliances or something always running, it’d be more eye-opening? For me, it’s mostly just confirmed what I already guessed.

I’ve run into the same thing—people can’t help but flip the old switches, even with labels. I ended up putting in smart switches for the main lights and leaving bulbs for accent stuff, mostly because it was easier than retraining everyone. About energy monitoring, I’m curious if anyone’s actually changed their habits after seeing the numbers? For me, it just confirmed my suspicions that my vintage lamp is a total power hog... but I love the look too much to swap it out.

I hear you on the vintage lamp thing—sometimes aesthetics just win out over efficiency. I’ve tried tracking energy use too, and honestly, it mostly confirmed what I already guessed. The real eye-opener for me was the kitchen—those under-cabinet halogens were eating way more power than I thought. Swapped them for LEDs and noticed a difference on the bill, but I’m still not giving up my old reading lamp either. Some things are worth the splurge, right?

Funny you mention the kitchen—mine was the same way. Swapped out those old puck lights for LEDs and it made a bigger dent than I expected. I’m with you on keeping a few “inefficient” favorites, though. Ever try wiring dimmers to vintage lamps? Sometimes it works, sometimes... not so much. Curious if anyone’s managed to get smart bulbs working in older fixtures without frying anything?
