I run into the same thing—muscle memory just takes over. I tried to design my last remodel with smart switches instead of just bulbs, thinking it’d solve the problem. It helped a bit, but honestly, I still find myself flipping the switch out of habit... Maybe some habits are just too ingrained?

Funny you mention that—I did the same thing in our kitchen, went all-in on smart switches thinking it would finally break my old habits. Turns out, I still reach for the switch without thinking, even after months. I wonder if anyone’s actually managed to retrain themselves? Or is it just one of those things where the tech has to adapt to us, not the other way around?

Title: Finally Upgraded My Living Room Lights—Anyone Else Tried Smart Bulbs?

Yeah, I get what you mean. I swapped out all the switches in my last reno project, thinking I'd finally stop flipping them out of habit... but muscle memory is stubborn. Even after wiring everything for voice and app control, I still catch myself reaching for the old switch. Maybe it's just hardwired into us at this point? The tech's cool, but honestly, sometimes it feels like it's fighting against years of habit rather than making life easier.

Muscle memory is a beast, no doubt. I’ve seen this exact thing with clients—doesn’t matter how slick the tech is, people still reach for the switch. Honestly, I think the best setups combine both: smart bulbs plus physical smart switches that work with the system. That way you don’t break habits, but still get all the automation benefits. Voice control’s fine when your hands are full, but nothing beats just tapping a switch as you walk by.

Totally get what you mean—my partner still flips the old switch and wonders why the lights don’t work right. I tried going all-in on voice control but honestly, sometimes you just want to hit a button and move on. Mixing both has saved us a lot of confusion (and arguments).
