Honestly, I get it—Excel’s not flashy, but at least you know what you’re dealing with. I’ve tried apps that promise to “streamline” everything, but half the time I’m just fighting their logic. Snapping pics of receipts is a lifesaver, though. I’ve wondered if there’s a way to link those images right into the spreadsheet, but every “solution” I’ve seen ends up being more work than just sticking with folders. Maybe it’s just one of those things where simple really is better?

Honestly, I think you’re onto something with the “simple is better” approach. I’ve tried linking receipt images to Excel using OneDrive—basically, you upload the pics to a shared folder, then paste the link into your spreadsheet. It works, but it’s clunky and not exactly seamless. At some point, I realized I was spending more time organizing than actually tracking my budget. Sometimes, a labeled folder and a solid spreadsheet just win out over fancy tech. If it ain’t broke, right?

I’ve tried the “fancy” route too—color-coded folders, cloud backups, the whole nine yards. Honestly, nothing beats a spreadsheet with clear tabs and a folder labeled “Receipts—DO NOT DELETE.” It’s not glamorous, but it keeps me sane when invoices start piling up. Sometimes low-tech just works.

That’s basically my system too, though I’ve tried apps that promise to “streamline” everything. They just end up adding steps I don’t need. The only thing I add is a running log in the spreadsheet for payment deadlines and draw requests—otherwise, stuff gets missed. Have you ever had bank inspectors ask for backup months later? That “DO NOT DELETE” folder has saved me more than once...

Same here. I learned the hard way after a surprise audit—spent hours digging through old email threads. Now, I keep a “Paper Trail” tab in my spreadsheet, linking every receipt and approval. It’s not fancy, but it works. I do wish there was a prettier way, but nothing beats knowing exactly where everything is when the bank comes knocking.
