I get what you’re saying about gold hardware, but I actually think it’s less about the quantity and more about the context. In some spaces—especially with cooler tones or really minimal palettes—even a lot of brass can feel balanced if the proportions are right. But if the rest of the room is already busy, then even a few shiny pieces can tip it overboard. I wonder if it’s more about contrast and visual weight than just “too much gold”?

On the texture thing, though, I’m not convinced chaos always works. Too many competing textures can make a space feel cluttered fast, especially in smaller rooms. Maybe there’s a threshold where our brains switch from “cozy” to “overstimulated”—and that line’s different for everyone.

Yeah, I totally get what you mean about context over quantity. I’ve noticed in my own projects that gold or brass can look super chic with navy or charcoal, but if there’s already a lot going on—like patterned rugs or bold art—it just feels like too much. Visual weight really does play a part. As for texture, I’ve definitely crossed that “cozy to chaos” line before... Layered throws, baskets, and rugs sound great until suddenly the room feels like a yard sale. Maybe it’s about editing down and letting a few things shine?

Interesting take, but I kinda wonder if sometimes we overthink the “less is more” thing. Like, yeah, too much texture can get wild fast, but I’ve seen spaces where a bunch of layered stuff actually works—almost like controlled chaos? Maybe it’s about how intentional the mix feels rather than just the number of items. Ever tried leaning into the “maximalist” vibe on purpose? Sometimes it ends up feeling more inviting than a super-edited room, at least to me.

I get what you mean—sometimes a “busy” space just feels right. There’s something about a room filled with color and texture that can make it feel alive, even if it’s technically breaking the rules. I’ve seen a few homes where the owner just went for it, mixing bold patterns and wild colors, and honestly, it worked way better than I expected. I guess if the choices are intentional, even chaos can look inviting. Minimalism is cool, but sometimes you want a little more personality in a space, you know?

Totally get this. I used to think mixing colors would just make a room look cluttered, but I once rented an apartment where the previous tenant had painted each wall a different color—like, deep blue, mustard yellow, and even a burnt orange. Weirdly enough, it felt cozy instead of overwhelming. Maybe it’s about balance or just owning the look. Funny how sometimes breaking the “rules” ends up saving money too, since you don’t have to match everything perfectly.
