I’d rather just use a flashlight and check things myself than rely on something that might not work when I need it most.

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve seen those battery backup sensors save a lot of headaches. Quick thoughts:

- Flashlights are great, but if a pipe bursts while you’re out or asleep, you won’t catch it in time.
- The battery backups on decent sensors last a long time. Not perfect, but better than nothing.
- Manual checks are good routine, but tech can catch stuff you’d miss between checks.

Had a client last year—sensor caught a slow leak under the sink at 2am. Would’ve been a mess by morning. Just my two cents...

I hear you on the sensors, and I’m not totally against them, but I still lean toward hands-on. Maybe it’s just habit from years of fixing things myself, but I trust my own eyes more than a gadget that could fail or give a false alarm. Had a buddy whose sensor went off in the middle of the night—turned out to be a spider crawling across it. He tore apart half his kitchen for nothing.

That said, I do see the value if you’re away a lot or have spots you can’t easily check. For me, I just make it part of my routine—quick look under sinks, around the water heater, that kind of thing. Takes five minutes and gives me peace of mind. Not saying sensors are useless, just that old-school works too if you’re consistent. Maybe it’s about finding the right balance for your setup.
