That’s a good point about sample invoices—transparency up front saves headaches later. I’ve had projects where “unexpected” fees showed up, and it turned out the reference just hadn’t thought to mention them. Has anyone here ever actually walked through a finished project with a reference? Sometimes seeing the end result in person tells you more than any phone call.

Walking a finished project with a reference? Honestly, that’s the only time I’ve ever gotten the real story. You can spot the weird paint lines, awkward corners, or “creative” shortcuts in five minutes flat. Phone calls are fine, but seeing is believing, right? Ever notice how nobody mentions the stuff that bugs them until you’re standing in their kitchen and they point at the cabinet doors?

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve done the “reference call” thing and it’s always glowing reviews—until you actually walk through their place. Suddenly you’re noticing trim that doesn’t line up or tile that’s just a bit off. You can’t fake that in person. Honestly, I trust my own eyes way more than a phone chat.

- Couldn’t agree more on seeing the work in person.
- Photos can even be misleading—angles, lighting, all that jazz.
- I’ve had clients show me “reference” projects that looked perfect in pics, but up close? Gaps, uneven paint, weird grout lines.
- Curious—has anyone actually had a reference call where someone mentioned problems or was it always sugar-coated?

Honestly, I’ve had a couple of reference calls where folks were pretty upfront about little hiccups—delays, a paint color that didn’t turn out right, stuff like that. Most of the time though, yeah, it’s mostly positive. Seeing the work up close is always best if you can swing it... nothing beats walking through the space and checking details for yourself.
