ARE BUILDER REFERENCES REALLY THAT HELPFUL OR JUST FLUFF?

That’s a great point about seeing the finished product in person. I remember obsessing over reference calls, but honestly, walking through a few homes the builder had done told me way more than any conversation ever could. Still, I wonder—has anyone here actually had a reference warn them off a builder? Or is it always just polite praise? I feel like there’s got to be a better way to get the real story... maybe talking to neighbors or checking public records?
