One thing I’ve found is that some of the newer grips are actually made with recycled materials, so you can still feel good about swapping them in.
That’s a good point. I swapped out a set of battered brass handles last year for some made from reclaimed wood and honestly, they’ve held up better than I expected. The look’s a bit different, but it feels right knowing I’m not just tossing more stuff in the landfill. Sometimes you gotta let go of the old charm if it means the door actually works and you’re not fighting with it every morning.
I get the appeal of reclaimed wood, but I’ve always wondered about durability long-term. Have you noticed any warping or weird wear? I had a set once that looked great for a year, then started splintering. Maybe I just got unlucky...
