there’s just no way to have a private moment with your tech when everything’s so interconnected

That hits home. I remember trying to set the mood for a movie night, asked the TV to dim the lights, and instead, it started blasting 90s pop music. Everyone just stared at me like I’d lost it. Honestly, I mostly stick to the remote too—less chance of accidentally summoning a dance party when all you want is popcorn and quiet.

Yeah, I totally get the awkwardness. Even after setting up smart home systems for clients, I still find myself fumbling with voice commands at home. Half the time, I feel like I'm talking to myself—or worse, the tech just mishears me and does something random. Ever notice how sometimes the simplest button press just works better? Guess some things don’t need an upgrade...

Honestly, I’ve wondered if we’re overcomplicating things just for the sake of it. There’s a certain satisfaction in just picking up a remote and pressing a button—no need to repeat yourself or hope the system catches your accent. Voice controls are impressive, but sometimes they feel more like a party trick than a real improvement. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather have reliability over novelty, especially when guests are around and you’re trying to show off your “smart” home... only for the lights to dim instead of the TV turning on.

Honestly, I get what you’re saying. The number of times I’ve told my living room to “turn on the TV” and it just plays music instead... kinda makes me miss the old clicker. Still, part of me likes the cool factor, even if it’s hit or miss sometimes.

I get the appeal of voice controls, but honestly, the inconsistency drives me nuts. I tried setting up a “movie night” routine—lights dim, TV on, soundbar ready. Half the time, it just turns off the lights and starts playing a podcast. There’s something to be said for the reliability of a physical remote. I mean, it’s not like the old remotes ever misunderstood me... unless I lost them in the couch cushions.
