What still works in a smart kitchen when the internet drops?

Which kitchen functions should keep working locally if the internet or a manufacturer’s cloud service is unavailable? I’d expect basic controls to be dependable, but scheduled functions, app alerts, and voice commands may rely on different connections. It’d be useful to know where that line falls for smart ovens, dishwashers, and refrigerators without assuming they all work the same way.

I’m also curious what happens after a router change or a service outage. Do appliances usually retain their settings and reconnect cleanly, or can setup and automation need attention? When choosing appliances or planning a home network, what connectivity limitations are worth asking about?

When comparing models, I’d ask where a schedule actually runs: on the appliance, through a local hub, or in the manufacturer’s cloud. If it needs the cloud, it may not run during an internet or service outage; a schedule stored on the appliance avoids that particular dependency. That’s a more useful distinction than just asking whether the appliance has Wi‑Fi.
