If you had to rig up your own home security on a tight budget, what would you do?

Let’s say you just moved into a new place and can’t afford the fancy security stuff yet. What’s your go-to hack for making things feel safer? Like, would you stick with cameras, fake signs, or maybe even some old-school tricks? I keep thinking about stringing up some bells on the doors or something, but not sure how effective that is. Anyone have clever ideas that actually work, or is it all just kinda for peace of mind?

I tried the window film thing after a neighbor’s car got broken into—honestly, it made a bigger difference than I expected. But I’m not convinced about the timers. Maybe it’s just me, but I always worry they’re too predictable if someone’s watching closely. Anyone else feel that way?
