No more fumbling for keys: did you know this?
I get the appeal of redundancy, but honestly, I’ve seen more issues crop up from traditional keys than from digital systems lately. Lost keys, lockouts, rekeying after tenants move out... it adds up. Sometimes, streamlining with tech actually reduces headaches in the long run.

I hear you, but I’ve had my smart lock glitch during a power outage and it was a pain. Still, I do agree - rekeying after tenants is such a hassle. I guess there’s no perfect system, just trade-offs.
Honestly, I’ve seen both sides of this. Had a client who insisted on the fanciest smart lock for their rental, and it looked great - until the battery died while they were out of town. Cue frantic calls and a locksmith bill. But on the flip side, I’ve had to coordinate rekeying for multiple units after tenants moved out, and that’s a logistical nightmare (not to mention the cost).
I guess it comes down to what headaches you’re willing to deal with. Tech can be finicky, but physical keys get lost or copied all the time. Personally, I lean toward smart locks with a manual key backup - best of both worlds, at least in theory. Nothing’s perfect, but at least you’re not stuck outside in the rain juggling groceries and a toddler while digging for keys... been there, done that.
- Totally get what you mean about the headaches.

Couldn’t agree more - lost keys are a recurring pain on every project.“Tech can be finicky, but physical keys get lost or copied all the time.”
- I’ve seen smart locks save a ton of hassle during turnovers, but battery issues are real. We now add “battery check” to our quarterly maintenance checklist.
- Manual key backup is non-negotiable for me. Too many horror stories from folks who went all-in on digital and got locked out.
- End of the day, it’s about risk management. No system’s perfect, but at least with smart locks you can reprogram codes in minutes instead of calling a locksmith and rekeying a dozen doors.
NO MORE FUMBLING FOR KEYS: DID YOU KNOW THIS?
I get the appeal of smart locks, especially for high-end homes where you want both convenience and a bit of wow factor. But honestly, I’m still not convinced they’re the “set it and forget it” solution some folks make them out to be. Had a friend with a gorgeous place - her lock’s battery died while she was on vacation, and the backup key was with her neighbor... who was also out of town. Total mess.
I do like the idea of reprogramming codes instead of swapping locks, but I can’t help wondering if we’re just trading one set of headaches for another. Maybe I’m old school, but there’s something reassuring about a solid metal key in your hand. Anyone else feel like tech sometimes overcomplicates what used to be simple?
