Had a similar issue with mine, but weirdly enough it wasn't metal causing the trouble—it was this big decorative mirror we hung nearby. Took me forever to figure out why the signal kept dropping randomly until I moved the thermostat away from it. Guess reflective surfaces can mess with wireless signals too...who knew? Still skeptical about how sensitive these things can be, but relocating it definitely sorted out my problem.

Interesting observation about reflective surfaces—I hadn't considered mirrors causing interference. Had a similar puzzle with a thermostat in one of our new developments; turned out a large aquarium nearby was the culprit. Strange how sensitive these devices can be to their surroundings...

That's quite intriguing—I wouldn't have guessed an aquarium could affect thermostat readings. Makes me wonder about other overlooked factors in home setups. Has anyone experienced interference from large windows or glass doors? I'm planning to install a smart thermostat soon, and our new place has extensive glass paneling... now I'm thinking I might need to reconsider placement carefully.

I've actually noticed something similar with large windows. At my last place, the thermostat was near a big sliding glass door, and sunny afternoons totally threw off the readings. It'd think the room was way warmer than it actually felt, so the AC would kick in unnecessarily.

Exactly... makes you realize how much subtle stuff can mess with these devices. Placement definitely matters more than I initially thought.

Had a similar issue when I first installed my smart thermostat. Thought I was being clever by placing it in the hallway, away from direct sunlight. Turns out, the hallway was always cooler and darker than the main living area, so the thermostat readings were consistently off. It really highlighted for me how crucial sensor placement is—not just avoiding direct sun, but also considering airflow patterns and room usage. Little things like that can seriously impact efficiency and comfort... learned that one the hard way.
