I ended up turning off all the auto stuff and just doing manual schedules—it felt less “smart” but way less chaotic.

Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of folks do exactly that. Sometimes the “smart” features just don’t play nice with how a house actually holds heat or cools down. Out of curiosity, is your thermostat near a drafty spot or a vent? Placement can mess with the sensors more than people realize.

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from. I tried letting the “smart” features do their thing, but my place has these huge windows and the sun just throws everything off. Manual schedules just felt more predictable. Have you ever tried using remote sensors in other rooms? Sometimes that helps balance things out, but it’s not always perfect...

I get the appeal of manual schedules, but honestly, I’ve had the opposite experience. The “smart” features actually started making sense for me once I tweaked the learning period and adjusted sun exposure settings. My place gets blasted by afternoon sun too, but after a few weeks, it adapted—though I did have to move one sensor away from the kitchen (oven heat was throwing it off).

“Manual schedules just felt more predictable.”

Predictable, sure, but I found myself constantly fiddling with settings before. Now it’s mostly hands-off unless there’s a weird weather swing. Not perfect, but less hassle overall.

I hear you on the sensors getting thrown off—had a client’s place where the thermostat kept thinking it was 80° because it was right above a vent. Took us a bit to figure out why the “smart” part wasn’t so smart. Once we moved it and dialed in the sun settings, it actually started working like it should. I used to be all about manual too, but honestly, not having to mess with it every time the weather flips is a win for me. Still, I get why some folks just want that old-school predictability.

Yeah, those sensor placements can really mess with you. I’ve seen folks get frustrated when their “smart” thermostat keeps fighting them, but honestly, once you get it set up right, it’s a game changer. I used to be skeptical too—there’s something nice about just turning a dial and knowing what you’ll get. But not having to think about it every time the temp swings? That’s hard to beat. Still, I get why some people stick with the old-school stuff... less to go wrong, in theory.
