We're finally starting our home renovation (yay, and also ugh), and we're stuck deciding between hiring an independent construction manager or going through a bigger firm. The independent guy seems super experienced, cheaper, and more flexible, but the firm offers more guarantees, insurance coverage, and maybe less hassle if something goes wrong. I'm leaning toward the independent route, but my partner is worried about risks. Has anyone done either option, and how'd it work out for you?

Went independent for our reno a few years back—honestly, it was a mixed bag. Saved money and had more say, but when our guy got sick mid-project... things stalled big-time. Still, if your independent manager is reliable, might be worth the risk.
