Honestly, I can’t count how many times I’ve had to redraw a site plan because some online map left out a random five-foot utility easement. Drives me nuts. Has anyone had luck getting reliable info from the county’s GIS system, or is it just as spotty in your area?

The county GIS here is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s spot-on, but I’ve also chased my tail for hours over a “missing” easement that turned out to be buried in an old scanned plat. I keep a bottle of Advil handy just for this stuff...

Yeah, those GIS maps can be a real headache. I’ve had to cross-check with old paper surveys more times than I care to admit… Sometimes I wonder if the “updated” digital tools are just making things trickier. A little patience (and maybe some chocolate) helps.

You’re not alone—those GIS layers can be a real puzzle. I’ve found that sometimes the “new” maps are missing details the old plats had, or the boundaries just don’t line up quite right. My process is usually: pull up the digital map, print it, then overlay it with a copy of the paper survey and mark any mismatches. It’s tedious, but it’s saved me from a few headaches down the line. Chocolate definitely helps... and maybe a strong cup of coffee too.

Those online tools always make me wonder if I’m missing something obvious or if the system’s just that clunky. I’ve run into the same problem with GIS maps not matching up with old surveys—one time the digital map had my neighbor’s fence on my side of the line, which made for an awkward chat. I usually triple-check everything, but it’s a hassle. If only they’d make these systems a bit more user-friendly... or at least let us zoom in without the whole thing freezing up. Coffee definitely required.
