DIGGING INTO PROPERTY EASEMENTS—ANYONE ELSE FIND ONLINE TOOLS CONFUSING?

It’s kind of wild how much time I’ve spent just trying to figure out where my property lines actually are. You’d think with all these fancy GIS maps and online portals, it’d be a breeze… but nope. I remember comparing the county’s online map to the plat I got at closing, and they didn’t even line up. At one point, I was convinced my future garden was either in a utility easement or possibly on my neighbor’s lot.

The thing that gets me is how often the “official” records seem to contradict each other. Like, if the digital stuff isn’t synced with those old paper surveys, what’s even the point? I get that digitizing everything takes time, but it feels like there should be some kind of double-check before anything goes live.

I totally hear you on project delays too. We almost started digging for a rain garden before someone flagged an old sewer easement that wasn’t on any of the online maps. Saved us a headache, but only because we got lucky. Guess it’s just part of the adventure of homeownership... or maybe a rite of passage?
