It's pretty old, probably 20+ years, so I guess it's about time. I'm not exactly swimming in cash right now, but I also don't want to cheap out and regret it later, you know? Anyone been through this recently and have suggestions on materials or contractors that are reliable but won't totally empty my wallet?

So last weekend I decided to tackle pouring a small concrete slab for a backyard shed. Picked up one of those DIY concrete mixing kits from the hardware store, you know, the ones that claim "easy for beginners." Um, easy might've been a stretch. Mixing concrete by hand was way messier and more exhausting than I expected, and leveling it out evenly—forget about it. Turned out okay-ish, but definitely not pro-level smooth. Curious if anyone else found these DIY kits trickier than advertised or if it's just me being clumsy...

Been going back and forth on this one for a while now. We're planning to build a new house next spring, and I'm stuck deciding between a concrete slab or a crawl space. I've heard slabs are cheaper upfront and less hassle with moisture issues, but then again, crawl spaces give you easier access to plumbing and wiring if something goes wrong later on. Plus, my uncle swears by crawl spaces because he says they're warmer underfoot in winter (though honestly, he's always cold, so who knows).

I guess I'm leaning slightly toward the slab for simplicity's sake, but I'm worried about regretting it down the line if we ever need repairs or want to change something. And then there's the whole radon thing—heard mixed opinions on which is better for that.

Anyone here built recently or have experience living with either one? Curious what you'd choose if you were building right now and why.
