"Maybe it's just about getting used to the sound...?"

You're probably right that people eventually tune out the noise, but I wouldn't underestimate how much it bothers some folks, especially at first. I've had tenants complain endlessly about rain noise on metal roofing, even though others barely notice it. Sustainability-wise, you're spot-on—metal roofs are hard to beat for recyclability and rainwater collection. Still, I'm curious if anyone here has experience with soundproofing methods specifically for metal roofs? I've heard mixed things about insulation effectiveness or adding underlayments. Could be a decent compromise if there's a reliable way to dampen the noise without sacrificing all those eco-benefits.

We put up a metal roof about five years ago, and yeah, the noise can be something else at first. Insulation definitely helps—I used rigid foam boards underneath ours and it made a noticeable difference. Didn't completely silence it, but took the edge off enough that now the rain's just background noise. Honestly, after a while you might even start liking it... free white noise machine for sleeping, right?

We did metal roofing a couple years back, and here's what worked for us:

- Added a layer of dense fiberglass insulation between the rafters—made a huge difference in muffling the rain noise.
- Hung some heavy fabric curtains inside, surprisingly effective at absorbing sound.
- Honestly though, after a few months, we barely noticed it anymore. Now it's kinda soothing... like nature's own playlist for rainy days.

We went with metal too, and yeah, insulation definitely helps. Didn't think about curtains though...might give that a shot. Honestly, the rain noise bothered me at first, but now it's just background noise—kinda relaxing actually.

Yeah, metal roofs definitely grow on you after a while. I've had clients who initially worried about the noise, but later said they wouldn't trade it for anything. Did you notice any difference in energy bills after adding insulation? Curious if it made a noticeable impact for you...some folks swear by it, others not so much.
