Yeah, I totally get what you mean about overdoing insulation. When we started our build, I kept reading about R-values and got a bit obsessed with making sure we weren’t losing heat anywhere. But then I started wondering—if you max out insulation but don’t have enough soffit or ridge vents, are you just asking for mold issues? I’ve seen some horror stories online where people had to rip out new insulation because of trapped moisture. Did anyone here actually measure their attic humidity before and after adding vents? I’m trying to figure out if there’s a “sweet spot” or if it’s just trial and error.

That’s a really good point about ventilation. I went a bit heavy on insulation in my last place, thinking more was always better, but didn’t realize how much airflow matters until I noticed some damp spots in the attic. Ended up installing a couple extra vents and it made a noticeable difference—humidity dropped by about 10% according to my cheap meter. I don’t think there’s a perfect formula, but balancing insulation with solid airflow seems to be the key. Too much of either can backfire.
