MAKING THE SWITCH TO WATER-SAVING TOILETS: WORTH IT?

I’ve had similar issues with cheaper models—sometimes it’s not just leaks, but the flush just isn’t strong enough. It’s tempting to save upfront, but I’ve found clients end up frustrated if the toilet doesn’t perform. Have you noticed some brands are way easier to clean, too? That’s been a big selling point for a few of my projects.

Couldn’t agree more—performance is everything. I’ve seen folks regret going for the cheapest option, especially when it means double flushing or constant cleaning. Some of the higher-end water-savers are surprisingly easy to keep spotless, though. Worth spending a bit more upfront, in my experience.

Had a client who insisted on the cheapest low-flow toilets for their office reno—looked good on paper, but within a month, complaints started rolling in. Weak flush, constant clogs, janitorial staff not thrilled. Ended up swapping them out for a mid-range model with a pressure-assist system. Night and day difference. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for... and in this case, it saved everyone a lot of headaches down the line.

That’s actually super helpful to hear. I’ve been on the fence about whether to go for the cheapest option or spend a bit more upfront. I get wanting to save money, but if it just leads to more maintenance calls and unhappy staff, is it really worth it? Did you notice much of a difference in water bills after switching to the pressure-assist ones? I’m all for saving water, but not if it means constant clogs...

I get where you’re coming from. I wrestled with the same decision when remodeling my place last year. Ended up going with mid-range pressure-assist models, and honestly, they’ve been solid so far. The initial cost was higher, but maintenance has been almost nonexistent compared to the old low-flow gravity ones I tried before—those clogged all the time and just annoyed everyone.

As for water bills, I noticed a drop, but it wasn’t dramatic. Maybe 10-15% month-to-month? Not life-changing, but over a few years it adds up. What surprised me more was how much less hassle there’s been. No more plungers lying around or frantic “toilet’s out again” texts.

If you’re running a place with lots of people using the bathrooms, I’d say paying a bit more upfront is worth it for your sanity alone. The really cheap ones might save you at first but can bite you later with repairs or angry users... learned that the hard way.
