MAKING THE SWITCH TO WATER-SAVING TOILETS: WORTH IT?

Guess it depends on the brand and how much you wanna spend upfront.

That’s what I keep wondering about—does spending more actually guarantee better performance, or is it just marketing? Has anyone noticed a difference in cleaning or maintenance costs after switching? I’m not sure if I’m ready to risk it just for a lower water bill.

I’ve swapped out a few toilets for clients and myself, and honestly, price isn’t always the best indicator. I put in a mid-range model at home—nothing fancy—and it’s been solid. Cleaning is about the same as my old one, but I do notice less water spots. Maintenance hasn’t changed much either. The only hiccup was getting used to the “double flush” thing for bigger jobs, but you adjust pretty quick. I wouldn’t say the higher-end ones are always worth it unless you really care about design or extra features.

That’s honestly been my experience too. I went for a pricier model in my last reno, mostly for the look and a soft-close lid—nice, but not life-changing. The double flush took a minute to get used to, but now it feels pretty normal. Sometimes I wonder if the “luxury” label is just about aesthetics more than actual function... Still, if you’re happy with what you picked, that’s what matters most.

I get where you’re coming from. I’ve always wondered if the extra dollars for “premium” features actually pay off in real life. The soft-close lid is cool, but I’m not sure it’s worth doubling the price. Still, if it makes you happy, that’s the main thing. Sometimes the little upgrades just make daily life feel a bit nicer, even if they aren’t game-changers.

Honestly, I’ve always leaned toward the basic models. I swapped out my old toilet for a water-saving one last year—no fancy lid, just the essentials. It’s saved a bit on the water bill, but I can’t say I miss the premium features. For me, the cost difference just isn’t justified unless there’s a real functional upgrade.
