Funny you mention the sunroom following the curve—

we ended up with a sunroom that followed the curve of the lot, which became everyone’s favorite spot in the house.
—I once toured a home where the living room was basically a glass wedge, and it felt like being inside a ship’s prow. Totally unique vibe, and the owners swore it was their “secret garden” for morning coffee. Ever run into any lots where the odd shape actually inspired something you couldn’t have pulled off on a plain rectangle? Sometimes those quirks are what make a place unforgettable.

Curved lots and weird angles can be a goldmine, honestly. Once worked on a pie-shaped lot wedged at the end of a cul-de-sac—at first, it seemed like a headache, but it turned into this amazing wraparound library and nook that opened right into the trees. You’d never get that sense of privacy or those sightlines with a boring rectangle. Sometimes it’s the quirks you fight at first that end up being the heart of the place. Constraints really do push creativity in ways you just don’t expect.

Totally get where you’re coming from—those oddball lots can really surprise you. I’ve seen folks get hung up on straight lines and perfect corners, but honestly, working with the land’s quirks often leads to the coolest spaces. Constraints just make you think outside the box.

Yeah, totally agree—some of the best homes I’ve toured are on those so-called “weird” lots. There’s this one place I saw that was basically a wedge shape, and the architect played it up with these cool angled rooms and panoramic windows. Honestly, sometimes those quirks end up being what makes the property unique. I do get why people want easy-to-build rectangles, but if you’re willing to get creative, you can snag something special (and often cheaper) that others overlook. Just gotta watch for access and utility hookups—they can get tricky on odd-shaped parcels.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve looked at a few “awkward” lots myself, and honestly, sometimes the price difference is wild. Like, I toured this narrow lot last year—everyone else had passed it over, but the view was killer and the price was way under anything else in the area. Yeah, it took a bit of extra planning to figure out how a house would fit (and I had to double-check with the city about utilities), but it actually opened up some cool design options I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.

I do think you have to be realistic about what you’re getting into, though. Some parcels look cheap until you factor in all those extra costs for access or weird setbacks. But if you’re not afraid of a little creative problem-solving, there’s definitely potential for something unique—and usually more affordable.
