Sometimes old-school cabling is still king, even if it means crawling through a crawlspace or two.

That’s the truth. I tried to avoid running cable for ages, thinking mesh would be the magic bullet, but it just didn’t cut it once the kids started streaming in every corner of the house. There’s something satisfying about knowing exactly where your wires go, even if it means a few scraped knuckles and some dust in your hair. Nice work getting it done—sometimes the “hard way” is the only way that actually works.

I hear you on the mesh hype—it’s great in theory, but in practice, I’ve found it’s just not as reliable as a hardwired connection, especially if you’ve got thick walls or a sprawling layout. I ran Cat6 out to my pool house last year and honestly, it’s been flawless. Sure, it took a Saturday and a bit of crawling around, but now I can stream 4K out there without a hiccup. Sometimes the “old school” way just feels more solid, you know? Mesh is fine for apartments, maybe, but for bigger spaces, nothing beats cable.

Totally get what you mean. I ran Cat6 from my main router out to my studio in the backyard a couple summers ago—bit of a pain, but worth every minute. Mesh was fine until I actually tried uploading big files for work, then it just... choked. I do appreciate how clean the mesh setup looks, but nothing beats a cable for peace of mind when you need reliability.

I hear you on the reliability front—wired is just less fussy. But I’ll admit, I’m always torn. I love a tidy space, and running cable can really mess with the vibe if it’s not hidden well. I’ve spent way too much time figuring out how to route wires behind trim or under flooring just to keep things looking intentional. Sometimes I wish mesh tech would just catch up already, but for now, yeah... cable wins for actual work.

Totally get the cable vs. clean look dilemma. When I wired my shed, I used low-voltage raceways and painted them to match the trim—made a huge difference. Still, every time I crawl under the house to fish a line, I wonder if mesh will ever truly catch up. For now, though, wired just feels bulletproof.
