WHEN YOU THINK YOU KNOW BETTER THAN YOUR LAWYER
Man, I’ve been there. First time I built my own house, I thought the contract was just overcomplicating things—figured I’d “fix” a few lines to make it clearer. Next thing I know, my lawyer’s calling me in a panic because I’d basically voided half the protections. Turns out, that confusing stuff is what keeps you out of trouble down the line. Still, you’d think after all these years they’d find a way to write it so regular folks don’t need a translator... but maybe that’s how they keep busy.
WHEN YOU THINK YOU KNOW BETTER THAN YOUR LAWYER
That hits close to home. I remember the first time I tried to negotiate a land purchase without running every detail by my attorney. Thought I could save some time, maybe even a few bucks. Ended up missing a clause about easements that nearly cost me access to half the property. It’s wild how much of that “legalese” is there for a reason, even if it feels like a foreign language. Still, I can’t help but wonder if there’s a way to make these contracts less of a headache for folks who just want to build or buy without needing a law degree.
