SINK FIXTURES DRIVING ME NUTS LATELY

Man, I hear you on the touchless faucet thing. I installed one in my last kitchen thinking it’d be a game changer, but half the time it just ignored me or turned on when my cat walked by. Ended up swapping it for a regular lever after a year of frustration. Did you ever try adjusting the sensor range or is it just a lost cause with these things? Sometimes I wonder if the tech is more trouble than it’s worth, especially when you just want to wash your hands without a light show.

I totally get the frustration with those touchless faucets. I tried one in a rental once, and it felt like I was waving at a stubborn robot - sometimes it worked, sometimes nothing. I did mess with the sensor range, but honestly, it just made the thing more unpredictable. Maybe the tech will catch up eventually, but for now, I’m sticking with good old-fashioned handles. At least my dog can’t accidentally flood the kitchen that way...

Not gonna lie, I used to be in the “handles only” camp too, but after installing a few higher-end touchless models for clients, my opinion’s shifted a bit. I get what you mean about waving at a stubborn robot - some of the cheaper sensors are just plain unreliable. But the newer ones with adjustable sensitivity and manual override have been surprisingly solid.

Here’s the thing: a lot of the frustration comes from bad placement or poor quality sensors. If you go with a reputable brand and make sure it’s installed right (and keep the sensor clean), it’s way less finicky. Plus, for folks with messy hands or little kids, not having to touch anything can be a game-changer.

That said, I totally agree about pets - my neighbor’s cat managed to turn theirs on once and it ran for hours before anyone noticed. Maybe there’s no perfect solution yet, but I wouldn’t write off the tech entirely. Sometimes it’s just a matter of finding the right setup for your space.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve seen my fair share of “wave and pray” moments with those sensors, especially in public restrooms. But yeah, the newer models do seem to be getting better. I had one client who swore off touchless until we put in a Moen with a manual override - now she’s a convert. Still, nothing’s more annoying than a faucet that won’t cooperate when your hands are covered in dough. Hang in there, it’s not just you.

That manual override on the Moen sounds like a lifesaver, honestly. I keep looking at touchless options but get stuck on the price vs. reliability thing - like, is it worth paying extra if half the time I’m just waving my hands around anyway? Anyone tried those cheaper no-name brands off Amazon? Curious if they’re even remotely decent or just more trouble than they’re worth...
