Just put in a new kitchen sink and wondering if anyone else struggled this much

Regular sealants have always been hit or miss for me - either they don't stick properly or they start peeling way sooner than I'd like. Did you find the eco-friendly stuff easier to apply overall, or was it about the same? Honestly, prepping the surface is half the battle anyway...I learned that the hard way after a rushed job ended up looking like a kindergarten art project, lol.

I've had similar experiences with regular sealants - surface prep really does make or break the job. Eco-friendly sealants can be a bit different in my experience; sometimes they're easier to handle because they're less harsh chemically, but other times they seem to set faster, giving you less wiggle room if your alignment isn't perfect. Honestly, I think it depends heavily on the specific brand and formula you're using.

Out of curiosity, did you find any noticeable differences in durability between eco-friendly and traditional sealants after installation? I've heard mixed feedback from clients about longevity, and I'm still trying to figure out if the eco-friendly options hold up as well over time.

Totally agree with you on this. I've found that eco-friendly sealants can be a bit temperamental, but once you get the hang of their quirks, they're actually pretty rewarding to work with. As for durability, I've had some surprisingly good results. Last year, I installed a farmhouse sink for a client who specifically requested eco-friendly materials. I was skeptical at first, but honestly, it's held up beautifully - no leaks, no discoloration, and still looks fresh after daily use.

I think the key is really in the prep and application. If you nail those steps, eco-friendly sealants can definitely compete with traditional ones in terms of longevity. Of course, like you said, it does depend heavily on the brand and formula. But don't get discouraged if your first try wasn't perfect... it gets easier each time, and the results can be pretty impressive.

Yeah, eco-friendly sealants threw me off at first too. I thought I'd messed everything up because it set way quicker than I expected. But after a year, it's still holding strong...so you're probably doing better than you think. Just takes a little practice, honestly.

Haha, this brings back memories. When I first installed my kitchen sink, I went with a silicone sealant that claimed to be "fast-curing." Well, they weren't kidding - I barely had time to smooth it out before it hardened into a lumpy mess. Surprisingly though, it's been leak-free for almost three years now. Curious if anyone else has found certain brands or types of sealants easier to work with?
