Went with quartz after debating forever, and honestly, best decision ever. Easy to clean, looks amazing, and survived my clumsy coffee spill already, lol. Anyone else had a countertop upgrade they're super happy with?

Nice choice! Quartz is so durable, I went with it for my bathroom vanity recently and zero complaints so far.

Quartz is seriously tough, I’ll give you that. I actually spent way too much time researching countertop materials before we built—probably drove my contractor nuts with all the questions. Ended up picking quartz for the kitchen because it just checked all the boxes: doesn’t stain, barely scratches, and I’m not worried about heat marks if I set down a warm pan for a second. I was a little skeptical at first since I’d always heard granite was “the” choice, but honestly, I haven’t missed it.

One thing I noticed, though—depending on the finish, fingerprints can show up more than I expected. Not a dealbreaker, but I wipe it down a lot. Still, I’d pick quartz again in a heartbeat. It’s holding up to my not-so-gentle cooking style, and it looks just as sharp as day one.

Quartz really does seem to be the crowd-pleaser these days. I’ve specified it for a few projects now, and honestly, it’s hard to beat for kitchens that actually get used. I remember one client who was dead set on marble until I showed her what a lemon wedge could do to it… she switched to quartz before I’d even finished my coffee.

You’re right about the fingerprints though—especially on those honed or matte finishes. Polished quartz tends to hide them a bit better, but then you get more glare from overhead lights. It’s always a trade-off. The thing is, every material has its quirks. Granite’s great, but I’ve seen some wild staining from red wine and oil if it isn’t sealed religiously. And don’t get me started on soapstone—gorgeous, but scratches if you so much as look at it funny.

One thing I’ve noticed with quartz is how forgiving it is when life gets chaotic in the kitchen. Had a client whose kids decided to “help” bake cookies and left dough everywhere—cleaned up without a trace. That peace of mind is worth something.

I do sometimes miss the natural variation you get with stone, though. There’s something about those unpredictable veins in granite or marble that feels alive, if that makes sense? But for day-to-day practicality, quartz just makes life easier. If only someone could invent a countertop that hides fingerprints and looks like real stone... maybe someday.

Funny how much time we all spend agonizing over counters when building or renovating, but once you settle in and start using the space, it’s those little details—like not panicking over spills—that end up mattering most.

- Quartz is definitely the practical choice for most kitchens. I’ve seen a lot of clients relieved to not worry about sealing or etching.
- The trade-off with natural stone’s unique patterns vs. quartz’s consistency comes up a lot. Some folks really want that “one-of-a-kind” look, but then get frustrated with maintenance.
- Fingerprints and smudges are a pain on darker colors, regardless of finish. Lighter shades seem to hide daily messes better.
- Durability-wise, quartz holds up well to dropped pans and the occasional knife slip—can’t say the same for softer stones.
- At the end of the day, it’s about how you use your kitchen. If you’re cooking every night, low-maintenance wins out over aesthetics for most people I work with.
