We bought one of those portable fire pits last month, and honestly it's been great for roasting marshmallows and hanging out in the backyard. But then my neighbor mentioned something about needing a permit or certain distances from buildings... um, I never even thought about that stuff. Now I'm wondering if I'm accidentally breaking some obscure city ordinance or something. Has anyone else run into this kind of confusion before?

I ran into something similar when I built my backyard deck—turns out there's a whole bunch of rules about fire pits I never knew existed. Ended up calling city hall just to be safe...might be worth checking into yours too.

Had a similar experience myself—built a fire pit last summer thinking it was straightforward, only to find out there's a whole checklist of clearances and materials allowed. Did your city specify anything about smokeless or low-emission pits? Mine had some pretty detailed guidelines on that, which surprised me. Definitely worth double-checking before you invest too much time or money into it.
