Been thinking about upgrading my backyard setup and I'm kinda stuck between propane and natural gas for a fire pit. Propane seems handy cause you can move it around, but refilling tanks sounds like a pain. Natural gas is convenient, but then you're stuck with one spot forever, you know? Curious what others prefer and why—any regrets or things you wish you'd known beforehand?

I've installed both types for clients, and honestly, it comes down to your priorities. Propane's portability is great if you like rearranging your space or want flexibility for events. Refilling tanks isn't too bad if you keep a spare handy—just swap and refill at your convenience. Natural gas is ideal if you prefer convenience and regular use without fuss. Just make sure you're 100% happy with the spot before installation...moving it later is a headache and costly.

Totally agree on the flexibility aspect—propane can be a lifesaver if you're indecisive (like me, lol). But have you thought about the aesthetics? Natural gas setups usually mean permanent lines, which can limit your design options...ever had issues blending them into your backyard style?

Yeah, aesthetics can be tricky with natural gas lines. I've found that if you plan ahead and run the lines under decking or along fence lines, they're pretty easy to hide. But you're right, propane definitely wins if you're constantly rearranging things...been there myself, haha.

Good points about hiding the gas lines. When I built my fire pit, I went with propane initially because I liked the flexibility, but honestly, lugging tanks around got old fast. Eventually switched to natural gas and haven't regretted it—yeah, it's stationary, but realistically how often do you move a fire pit anyway? If you're someone who rearranges your yard layout every season, propane makes sense, but otherwise natural gas is just way less hassle long-term.
