Smart home newbie here, is Apple's ecosystem worth diving into?

Been thinking about finally getting my apartment set up with some smart home stuff, lights, thermostat, maybe a camera. I'm already pretty deep into Apple gear (iPhone, MacBook, Apple TV), so I'm leaning towards their system. But um, is it actually worth it or should I consider other options? Curious if anyone's had good or bad experiences with reliability or compatibility issues.

I've had a similar experience with HomeKit—firmware updates seem quicker and more consistent compared to other platforms. One minor gripe though: device selection can feel limited sometimes, especially if you're looking for niche sensors or specific brands... but overall, still worth it for reliability alone.
