the wildlife sets them off constantly—raccoons, deer, even the neighbor’s cat. The lights end up flicking on and off all night, which is just as annoying as leaving them on.

Had the same issue when I put in motion lights by the garage. Ended up swapping to ones with adjustable sensitivity and timers. Took a few tries, but dialing it down helped a lot—now it only triggers for people, not critters. Still, I get what you mean about that constant flickering. Sometimes a simple porch light on a dimmer is less hassle.
