Will a paver dining area stay comfortable to use?

The drainage benefit of permeable pavers sounds appealing, but I’m unsure how they compare with a solid patio for everyday outdoor dining. Do the base preparation and grading matter more than the surface choice when it comes to puddling?

I’d also like to know how dining chairs feel on the joints and whether a wheeled serving cart rolls smoothly. What upkeep do the joints typically need, and are individual pavers easier to repair later than sections of a solid surface? I’m not looking at the pavers as a fix for poor site drainage; I’m trying to understand how each option performs when the patio is designed and installed for its conditions.

For dining, the finished surface matters more to chairs and cart wheels than the word “permeable” on its own. Narrow joints and pavers set flush and stable with one another make movement easier; wider joints or uneven edges can catch small wheels and leave chair feet rocking. I’d compare the actual joint layout and finished evenness with the cart’s wheel size before choosing.
