From a purely technical standpoint, the soundproofing difference isn't all that dramatic if the veneer was installed properly with good insulation behind it. Solid brick does have a slight edge, but honestly, you'd probably get more bang for your buck investing in higher-quality windows or extra drywall layers instead...

Fair point about windows and drywall, but there's something else to consider beyond just soundproofing—thermal mass. Solid brick walls have a unique way of stabilizing indoor temperatures, making your home feel naturally comfortable year-round. I've had clients notice a real difference in energy efficiency and overall comfort. It's subtle, sure, but sometimes those intangible benefits add up to something special...

Good point on thermal mass, but honestly, I'm not sure the difference is always noticeable enough to justify the hassle. My parents had solid brick in their old place, and while it did feel cozy in winter, summers could get pretty rough once the bricks heated up. Plus, modern insulation and smart HVAC setups have come a long way. Like someone said earlier:

"you'd probably get more bang for your buck investing in higher-quality windows"

Might be easier (and cheaper) to just upgrade windows and insulation instead...

Fair enough, windows and insulation upgrades do make a huge difference these days. But I still think brick has its perks beyond thermal mass—like durability and lower maintenance. A friend of mine had vinyl siding that got shredded in a hailstorm, while my brick walls barely got a scratch. Maybe the real question is, how much do you value that extra peace of mind or curb appeal over the long haul?

That's exactly it. When we built our place, I debated brick veneer vs. solid brick for weeks. Ended up going full brick—pricey, yeah, but after seeing neighbors deal with siding repairs post-storm... zero regrets here.
