WHEN “SMART” DEVICES AREN’T SO SMART AFTER ALL

Totally get where you’re coming from. I moved into my place last year and thought I’d be all fancy with smart lights everywhere, but honestly? Half the time I just use the regular switches anyway. The updates breaking stuff is the worst - I had a light in my kitchen that wouldn’t turn off for a week because of some random update. I do like having the thermostat automated (especially when I’m out), but yeah, for most things, simple just works. Sometimes low-tech is less stress.

I totally relate - I've seen clients get super excited about smart bulbs, only to end up taping over the switches so no one messes up the settings. Ever tried setting up a “scene” for guests and then someone flips the wall switch? Instant chaos. Do you find the thermostat is the only thing that really saves you time, or have you found any other smart gadgets that actually make life easier?

That’s exactly why I gave up on smart bulbs. One wrong move and suddenly you’re eating dinner in the dark. Honestly, the only thing that’s actually made life easier for me is the smart garage door opener. No more turning around halfway to work wondering if I left it open. Everything else just seems like more hassle than it’s worth.

I hear you on the smart bulbs. I tried integrating them into a few new builds, thinking it’d impress clients. Instead, I got calls about “why do my lights not work when I use the switch?” It’s always the basics that trip people up. The garage door opener, though - totally worth it. That’s one bit of tech I’d actually recommend to anyone.

Title: When “Smart” Devices Aren’t So Smart After All

- Totally get what you mean about the smart bulbs.
- I thought they’d be a cool upgrade for our new place, but honestly, my partner and I keep forgetting which switches we’re “allowed” to use.
- Half the time, we just end up using our phones to turn the lights back on after flipping the switch off by habit... feels kinda silly.
- The garage door opener, though - yeah, that’s been a game changer for us too. No more running back inside to check if it’s closed.
- I still want to like the smart bulbs, but maybe they’re just not as intuitive as they should be? Or maybe we’re not as techy as we thought.
- Anyway, glad I’m not the only one who finds some of this stuff more hassle than help.

It’s weird how some “smart” things just make life more complicated, while others are actually useful. Guess it’s all about picking your battles with home tech...
