Anyone else feel awkward talking to their TV?

I’ve wrestled with this too, especially in summer when the AC is basically non-negotiable. I tried putting a sock over the mic once—didn’t help, just looked ridiculous. Rearranging the room helped a bit, but honestly, sometimes I just end up yelling “volume up” like I’m calling out to a stubborn pet. Not sure pricier mics would solve it unless you’re going full podcast studio. Maybe some kind of DIY baffle? Or just accept that my TV and I have communication issues...

Totally get where you’re coming from—my AC is loud enough that half the time, my TV thinks I’m talking to it when I’m just mumbling to myself. I tried moving the TV closer to where I usually sit, which helped a bit, but it’s still hit or miss. I’ve seen people use those foam panels for sound, but honestly, I’m not sure I want my living room looking like a recording booth. Sometimes I just give up and use the remote... less yelling, more sanity.

- Been there—voice controls are great until background noise gets in the way.
- Honestly, remote’s still the MVP for me.
- If you’re worried about foam panels, there are eco-friendlier options like felt or recycled fabric that don’t look too “studio.”
- It’s not just you... yelling at appliances is practically a modern ritual.

I get what you mean about the foam panels—those things always scream “recording booth” to me. I switched to some recycled felt tiles last year and honestly, they blend in way better and don’t feel so… industrial? Plus, less plastic waste. But circling back to the voice controls, does anyone else feel like all this tech is making us design our spaces around gadgets instead of comfort or sustainability? I’m all for smart homes, but sometimes it feels like we’re sacrificing a bit of soul for convenience.

Yeah, I totally get that vibe. I just finished building my place and tried to keep things simple, but the smart stuff creeps in everywhere. I still feel weird saying “Hey TV, turn on” when I could just grab the remote. It’s like the house is running me sometimes, not the other way around. I love the convenience, but honestly, I miss when rooms were just... rooms, you know?
