Anyone else feel awkward talking to their TV?

I tried using the voice thing for a while but honestly, it just feels awkward - especially if someone else is in the room.

I get what you mean about the awkwardness, especially when someone else is around. I’ve caught myself lowering my voice or just mumbling commands so nobody thinks I’m talking to myself. The tech is impressive, but it’s not quite there yet for me either.

Funny thing - last week I tried to get my TV to switch to a specific HDMI input by voice, and it just kept pulling up random apps instead. After three tries, I gave up and used the remote. It’s like, “Why am I making this harder than it needs to be?” Maybe it’s just habit, but the remote feels more precise.

Curious if anyone’s actually found a use case where voice commands are genuinely faster or more reliable? Or is it mostly just a novelty at this point?

- Totally get the awkwardness factor.

“Why am I making this harder than it needs to be?”
- That’s exactly it. Sometimes the “smart” way just isn’t the easiest.
- I’ve only found voice commands useful when my hands are full, like cooking and needing to pause a show. Even then, it’s hit or miss.
- The remote’s just more reliable. Maybe in a few years, voice tech will feel less clunky... right now, it’s mostly a party trick for me.

That “party trick” feeling really resonates. I keep thinking, if the tech is supposed to make things easier, why do I end up repeating myself or enunciating like I’m on stage? The remote just works, no fuss. Out of curiosity, has anyone actually found a voice command feature that’s genuinely faster or more accurate than just pressing a button? Maybe I’m missing something, but so far it feels like more hassle than help.

I’ve tried using voice commands on my smart TV - figured it’d be a time-saver. But honestly, I end up repeating myself or getting misunderstood, especially if there’s background noise. Reminds me of those “smart” thermostats that never quite get the temp right. Has anyone gotten it to work smoothly in a family room with kids running around?

Title: Anyone else feel awkward talking to their TV?

Honestly, voice commands in a noisy family room are a tough sell. If you want to give it another shot, try these tweaks: First, check if your TV has a “far-field mic” setting - some models let you adjust sensitivity. Next, position the TV away from high-traffic areas if possible (not always easy, I know). Also, some TVs let you train the voice assistant to recognize your voice better - worth digging into the settings. But yeah, with kids yelling, I still end up using the remote half the time... not sure tech’s quite there yet for chaotic spaces.
